W.i.P. Wednesday: Still stitching

It seems like everything has been changing this month: schedules, the weather, vacation plans...  all good but it's definitely messing with my sewing time.  Through it all somehow I've managed to keep stitching things together:-)

When you're teen says she wants to make a tote bag you drop everything to make it happen!  Audrey raided my stash and we staged our own mini shop hop to find exactly what she wanted.  Totally worth it,  I love this nautical look she's pulled together!

While we were digging through my stash I rediscovered these Melody Miller canvas prints which I combined with the plethora of Zipit zippers I won at retreat to whip up this fabulous Fabric Mutt Agave Clutch.

The size doesn't really work for me as a purse but it is perfect as a portfolio.

And I'm officially addicted to English paper piecing which you really can do anywhere.  I started my second rosette for La Passacaglia with these precious little Cotton + Steel bunnies.  One of my Hand Sewing Happy Hour peeps shared this fabulous tip so I'll pass it along...  Trace your paper pieces on to an index card and cut out the shape to make a window for auditioning your fabric.  It's great to see how much of your motif will actually show inside these tiny pieces.

More Tula Pink picked out for the next couple of rounds on my first rosette...  It's definitely more challenging to choose the fabrics for each ring than it is to actually sew them together:-)

New Addition

Another quilt from my Plus quilt craze rescued from the UFO pile.  I took this on retreat last winter but only managed to quilt the center section.  I picked it up again in the summer but somehow still didn't manage to finish.  I found it again unpacking from this year's retreat and decided it was finally time to finish it up.

I had enough scraps leftover to get a little fancy on the back.  I'm determined to use up every last bit of this collection!

I don't have a recipient for this at the moment but I'm sure it'll end up in a good home:-)

2015 Finish Along: The Saga Continues...

I may have been a bit overly optimistic when I made my list for Q1 of the 2015 Finish Along hosted by On the Windy Side.  Only 2 finishes from my list, my Kate Spain Christmas quilt and Plus One but I did make progress on several other items.  Knowing Spring is always busy I'm trying to be a bit more realistic with my plan for Q2...

1.  Enchanted:  This is quilted and just needs to be finished up.

2. A Walk in the Park:  I basted this while on the Boston MQG retreat so it's ready for quilting.

3. Keeping it Together and 4. Toes In the Sand:  I want to gift these in June so I have a real deadline now.  I'm planning to quilt both of these at Laurena's Longarm but with the never-ending snow and cold this winter I pretty much barricaded myself in my quilt studio and refused to leave for anything short of a thread emergency:-)  Now that the weather is improving I can schedule some time but it'll be trickier now that I'm working.

5. Blue Plate Special:  I've made all the plates I need so I just need to settle on the final layout.  I plan to finish this the same as I completed my Ghastly Othello quilt so I'll just quilt the plates on to the assembled quilt sandwich rather than appliqueing them down first.

6.  Here Comes the Sun:  Another retreat project, I was cruising along on this until I ran out of low volume fabrics for the sashing.

7. Beatrix Potter:  It's a long shot that I'll actually finish hand quilting this but having it on the list for Q1 actually got things started.  I'll have lots more time for handwork once it's actually warm enough to start spending weekends in Maine but you never know...  the big stitch quilting goes a lot faster than my old 12 stitches/inch!

Here I Go Again...

I was getting out my Easter decorations and remembered I still only had 4 matching napkins.  I'd even cut enough linen for 4 more and stored it with the rest of this Calypso bundle so it was really a no brainer to whip up another set in time for this year's Easter celebration.

I used my Self Binding Napkin Tutorial to make these and in the time it took me to watch Silver Linings Playbook I was done.

Hopefully making this year's bunny cake will go as smoothly:-)

So excited Finish it Up Friday with Crazy Mom Quilts is back!!!  Hop on over to check out what everyone has been up to this week...

W.i.P. Wednesday: Detour

So I had been cruising along on my Sunkissed Strawberry Fields quilt when I hit a speed bump...  I ran out of low volume fabrics for my sashing.

Since I was really enjoying working on such a sunny project despite the never-ending bitter cold here, I decided this was a good time to do something with all the bonus triangles I made from the snowball blocks.

As soon as I realized I had 4 HSTs of each print I knew exactly what I was going to do with them...  pinwheels!

This was actually my original plan (but on a smaller scale) for this layer cake but it just never happened.  Obviously it was meant to be!  Now I'm trying to decide if this is done or if I'm going to add some borders.  Until then it'll keep things sunny in my studio;-)
