W.i.P. Wednesday: I ♥ Tula Pink

This week I finally got going on the Tula Pink Sew Along.  I'm a long time Tula Trooper so when Sew Sweetness announced this I knew I was in.  The hardest part was deciding what to do!  Finally I decided to at long last make the fabulous Love quilt.

Of course I used pink;-)  In the interest of time I scaled this down to be a pillow cover so it measures 16" x 20".

For the quilting I started by stitching in the ditch around each letter and dividing the quilt in to 4 sections.

From there I pulled out Free-Motion Quilting by the Amazing Angela Walters and started practicing some of her patterns.  These concentric circles were fun but I have a hard time keeping them round.  Three more quadrants to go...  I'm determined to do one with pebbles but I'm going to need a lot more practice!

  1. Looking good. Pebbles are very forgiving, so don't be intimidated by them. Just go for it!

  2. It's looking great so far! I made a LOVE quilt myself earlier this year but went with very basic quilting. Good luck with your FMQ. It's looking great.

  3. I love this quilt! Great quilting. You may find pebbles easier to do than the other patterns : ) Enjoy. I came over from freshly pieced.

  4. I love this! The circles look great. I know I never think my quilting looks so good when I've got my nose right up to it, but the entirety looks really good.

And totally don't fear pebbles, they're great. I found it took the pressure off of being too consistent when I decided to intentionally make them a variety of sizes. Then I didn't have to freak about them all being *just so* and the end texture is really great.

  5. Your quilting looks great! The swirls in my "Shades of Blue" are not perfect either. But when you use a thread that blends no one is going to know. All the see is beautiful quilting.

Pebbles are great and forgiving design. Make them varied size like "Goddess in Progress" said and just go for it. The bigger the pebbles the faster the quilting goes.

    Good luck!

  8. Looking good! I thought pebbles were unobtainable too till I saw some on some big shots quilts up close and they weren't so perfect...so go for it and don't worry about it so much.
