Anchors Away Everyday Skirt

Could I get any preppier?  I managed to score a couple of yards of this fabulous Out to Sea Anchors Away one of the times it came back in stock at Hawthorne Threads.  I'd been planning to make a skirt with it but never got around to it.  Last Friday Hawthorne Threads posted this adorable one on their Instagram feed and I decided the time had come.

I made my first Everyday Skirt with Chambray last year and it's been in heavy rotation ever since.  Lisel + Co patterns are so clear and easy to follow, this is definitely a go to favorite.  My only complaint is that it runs big so I decided to size down on this one and made a Medium.  I still cut the hem line at the XS line and used the standard 2" hem for my shortened stature.  I also went with a single length of elastic in the back waistband this time.

I love how polished this skirt is!  The flat front waist band looks tailored while the gathered elastic back makes it comfortable and easy to slip on and go.

And also pockets!!!  I added a pop of hot pink for the pocket lining.  This goes together so quickly I was able to make it in an afternoon and be ready for cocktail hour at the lake.  Expect to see me wearing this everywhere:-)

Everyday Making

Growing Home's Flirt Skirt has been my go to pattern but ever since taking a class with the lovely Liesl Gibson at the Philly Sew Down I've wanted to try her Everyday Skirt pattern.  The designs are fairly similar but Liesl's is a bit more polished.

I picked up this adorable Herringbone Chambray at Gather Here last weekend and paired it with this amazing Liberty print I picked up on my NYC fabric crawl at Purl Soho.  I bought the downloadable pattern from Pink Chalk Fabrics.  It was a bit annoying having to print 33 pages and tape them together but I probably spent more time complaining about it than actually doing it and the instant gratification factor is huge.  It was snowing again so driving to Quilter's Way wasn't going to happen.

The pattern is clearly written and easy to follow.  I made the size Large but cut the hem line at X-Small.  I'm only 5' 2" so this was the perfect length!

I love the pockets though adding the side panels requires more fabric.  I'm on the fence about the double row of elastic in the back.  I definitely prefer the gathered waist band in the front but next time will probably just use a single piece of 1 1/2" elastic.

The Chambray is lighter than I expected.  It just looks heavier to me but it has the drape of linen which made it perfect for this skirt.  I really wanted to wear this to Gather Here's 3rd year in business party so I paired it with my Lilly Wellies and a sweater but I think it'll get a lot more wear come summer when I can pair it with flip flops and a T;-)
