W.i.P. Wednesday: Quilting ADD

I've been having a hard time getting back into the swing of things this year.  It seems like every time I step into my studio I stare at all the UFOs and then start something new...

still haven't finished up the Boat House pillow covers I worked on last week but with a snowstorm on the way I figured this would be a good time to start quilting my Houndstooth quilt.  I even made a trip to Quilter's Way to stock up on thread...  but then I couldn't decide how to quilt it.  Instead I decided I should make a sample to audition quilting on first.  I found these solids in my stash and got to work piecing together a 1/2 sized version.  Guess what I don't have...  lime green thread.

In the end we didn't actually get much snow but I wasn't about to go out in the cold so I distracted myself playing around with these hexies...  obviously I still had snowflakes on the brain.

And then for good measure when I pulled out my Boat House stash to make binding I realized what I really needed to make was a Preppy the Whale pillow.

So there's my week: 5 pillows in progress, 0 finished.  How do you stay focused to actually get things done?

  1. I think quilting ADD is part of the process sometimes! Enjoy the making and finish them when you please! I love the hexie snowflake :)

  2. There appears to be a similar theme amongst the blogs this time of year, a lack of focus. I think perhaps we are coming down from overload over the holidays. Also, new year's resolution are fresh in our minds making us feel guilty if we do what we want instead of what we said we should do. I am trying to mix a bit of what I should with a bit of willy nilly what I want. But I can't let go of that niggling feeling that causes me to work surreptitiously on what strikes my fancy. Your adorable preppy whale fits in the willy nilly category. Ya gotta have fun with your craft!

  3. The thing that gives me the most focus is unfortunately deadlines. I totally agree that a lot of us are struggling with focus this year!

  4. I don't. I slowly chip away at many projects at once. Eventually they work their way to the done column. :-) I'm trying to focus 30 minutes a day on my Swoon quilt for this month, so even though that is mixed in with a number of other projects, I'm sure to make more progress on it this month than I have in quite a long time. Even if I don't finish the quilt top this month (which I don't figure I will) that's still win. Eventually it'll make it to the finished column. :-)
