Mini Quilt Monday - Improv Pieced Sherbet Pips

Last week my quilting wonder twin Aimee at Salt Marsh Designs invited me to join her in Fresh Lemons' Mini Quilt Mondays.  September always feels like a fresh start to me, a time to try new things and meet new friends, so this is the perfect way to kick-off the school year.  This week I used a pile of Sherbet Pips scraps and some improv piecing to come up with this mini quilt.

For the quilting I just used random straight lines.  Again, not my norm but I tried to make it look like a game of pick-up sticks.  Finally, for something really different I machine tacked the border.  No pictures of how that came out... I'll definitely need to keep practicing before that technique is ready for prime-time!  This week was definitely a stretch for me but I'm already thinking about what to try next: )
